Double and triple-needle construction is utilized throughout, plus 48 bartacks in high-stress areas add to the tremendous strength of the tactical pants.  For added durability, the magazine/cell phone pocket and corners of the slash pockets are lined with Cordura® nylon. The double reinforced seat and knees provide enhanced abrasion protection, and interior knee slots are ready to accept 6mm neoprene kneepads.  At the ankle hemline, built-in blousing strap openings can accommodate 500 cord.On the 5.11 Tactical Pants, we use only genuine, locking-flange YKK® zippers and quality PRYM® snaps, both of which are top-of-the-line in the industry. Best pants for active work` October 13, 2008
"I originally bought these from Royal Robbins, at a higher price, but they were worth it! Now 5.11 Tactical keeps these great pants alive in many more useful variations, thanks from the bottom of my... um...

I started wearing these years ago when i did field service for a company that made steam sterilizers.

The thick cotton provided a degree of protection against the hot piping, after of hours in a hot sterilizer access room, I would be quite sweaty, yet these pants remained non-binding and very comfortable to move around in.

The elastic sides do not dig in as some pants do, an important feature after 10-12 hours in the same sweaty pants. I've NEVER found a better pair of pants, from army BDUs to designer style climbing pants costing twice as much. They might not be the best choice for actual combat type operations, but for civilian field use- they are optimum.

These are truly serious pants that could and should be the basis of any uniform for people that work hard in the field. Strange that they work so well for an engineering job as well, I will be trying the the different styles soon, and have great hopes for their utility and functionality.

Anyone who works hard and active owes it to themselves to try these pants, there is a very good reason the style has survived for so long."

Put to the Test September 30, 2008
"I believe I have put the 5:11 tactical pants to the ultimate test. I have worked for over 3 years in the Middle East under less than desirable conditions and these pants far out rate any others that claim to be in its class.

Number one key factor is… they ARE comfortable and let me maneuver into some pretty tight situations without binding. Next in line would be the durability. I unintentionally have tried to beat these pants down and they come back strong. And last these pants are affordable when it is time for replacements and it is not too often.

Each cargo area is utilized to its full capacity and I never seem to run out of room. And the variety of colors helps me to blend if necessary.

My team and I don’t just consider these as a pair of pants but a vital part of our equipment.

Thanks 5:11…and keep up the good work."

The IT Guy's Dream August 27, 2008
"For all the years I've been an IT guy I've searched for something I can wear from a meeting to a crisis in the server room. Three years ago my wife surprised me with three pair of 5.11 Tactical pants for my birthday and now that's all I wear.

With double knees, pockets for days and an ever-expanding choice of colors I can show up each day and concentrate on my work and not worry about whether or not I'll look presentable after fixing a problem.

I can even walk down the hall packing most of my tools in my pockets and be hands free for doors and handshakes. When I get to the service location, I have the freedom to bend, kneel and crawl around due to the roomy cut that lets me move while not looking sloppy during the rest of the day.

While not a front line tactician, even our first responders need maximum up time from their communications network and the 5.11 tactical pant lets me concentrate on keeping the network together."

5.11 Tactical Pants August 27, 2008
"These pants are made by 5.11 Tactical, which originated from the rock climbing/outdoor company Royal Robins. These pants come in both Cotton and Nylon and also come in sizes to fit men and women. They are great tactical pants as well as rugged everyday pants. I have only had these pants for a short time, but so far they have held up well and I love the features. One feature that I wish they had was a dedicated wallet pocket above the back pockets. The back pockets are large, and if a wallet is placed in them it rides low and ends up under your leg when sitting. I normally carry my wallet in the thigh cargo pocket on pants with cargo pockets anyway....so it's not too big an issue. This way, also, you can put things such as AR magazines in the back pocket and have plenty of room. Speaking of cargo pockets...I have seen in one place an advertisement for these pants saying they have the 5.11 BBS (backup belt system, velcro which allows pockets to be attached) in the cargo pockets. Some 5.11 pants do have this...these pants, however, do not.
I noticed two things on these pants that is not mentioned in their description. One thing that can be seen in the picture below is that they have an additional button to hold the fly closed on the inside. Another is the fact that the hemmed versions also have holes in the cuff for you to add a drawstring for blousing like BDUs.
Fading in the coyote color that I bought isn't an issue so far. I have seen coworkers with black cotton 5.11 pants that don't appear black after the first couple washings. They appear a dark green and sometimes a dark navy blue, and seem to fade faster.
Here are some of the other listed features of these pants:
1- Double knee with pocket for kneepad. The pocket opening is on the inside of the pants and opens from the side.
2- YKK zipper fly with Prym snap closure.
3- Solid Brass D-ring off the right front belt loop.
4- Wider Belt loops are more durable.
5- Magazine/cell phone pocket on front of left thigh.
6- Bellowed cargo pockets with velcro closure.
7- Double seat.
8- Rear slash pockets with Velcro. These pockets are large.
9- Elastic waist.
10- Utility strap over right back pocket. This feature comes from the original pants designed for rock climbing and is where carabiners were attached. I have used this strap to attach a small MOLLE cell phone pouch.
11- Reinforced areas on front and rear slash pockets to reduce wear from knife clips.
12- Bartacks and triple-stitched for strength and durability.
13- Made from 8.8oz cotton canvas or 7.4ox nylon canvas."

My ONLY complaint... November 9, 2008
"...is that my boss at the security company I work for doesn't like for me to wear these. Despite that they are like 10 times more comfortable than the pants they issue us--which stick to me like a cheap suit. *shudder*

However I still wear them at work and manage to get away with it on certain occassions.

Other than that? 5.11 pants are the best pants I ever wore. I refuse to wear anything else.

That and I'd like to see the 5.11 "Holster Pants" make a come-back. =)"

Fade NOT to Black November 9, 2008
"These would be great pants if the black did not fade WAY too much. I buy a pair every year simply because they fade a lot. I have a closet full of black jeans that don't fade. I wash in cold water once a week and in 5 - 6 months I'll need another pair and use the faded ones for painting/yard work pants -- my pile of work pants is getting too big. I'd rather pay more and have better quality dye and fabric."

Great pants, BUT... October 14, 2008
"I've been wearing these pants for about 5 years now, I have tried the nylon version also. I have adopted them as my unofficial uniform, and own about a dozen pair. I am a retired cop, t3wenty years as a major crime scene forensic analyst and now run my own Private investgation, legal service company. No domestics, but I stay very busy.
These pants are the best, except! Every pair I own, the elastic in the sides loses its pull very quickly. Less then a year into the life of these pants and the yare almost unwearable becasue they no longer fit. A year is not enough for a $50 pair of pants. Also, the french fly button, on almost every pair, works loose very quickly. Simple to fix, but a detail over looked by 5-11.
I am going to try some of hte competitors pants and compare the durability. When I called customer service, they said, sorry, a year warrenty. I have about 7 pair of useless pants because the elastic has worn out!"

Great Duty Wear September 30, 2008
"I have been wearing these pants for several years and have converted many of our officers to 5.11 gear. My only complaint (nothing which keeps me from recommending them) is the pants can be a touch warm in 85+ degree weather due to their thick composition, which is a minor trade-off for their durability. I buy about 2-3 pair per year and that's all I need."

Amazing Pants September 28, 2008
"I bought a pair of these on a whim when I got to Offutt Air Force Base just because they looked useful and comfortable. Boy, I had no idea.

The first time I actually wore them was to a Force-on-Force at the Security Forces squadron where I was OpFor. As OpFor, we were outnumbered and had to run/slide/dive/roll around quite a bit. These pants took all the abuse and kept begging for more. I am kinda rough on my uniforms and I go through ABU's like no ones business, but I have yet to kill a pair of these. Now, I do OpFor quite often and I wear them every time. I think that qualifies them as a superior combat pant. They are compatible with the Safariland M9 leg drop holster(Not a lot of fraying like I see on the ABUs and BDUs) and I carry a notebook and pen in the little cell phone pocket for taking notes before, after, and during a Force-on-Force. The little strap above the right back pocket works nicely as a place to attach a MOLLE wallet or a MOLLE uitility pouch.

Now, I also tend to wear these off duty. Again, the cell phone pocket keeps(surprise) my cell phone safe and secure, and the slash pockets in the back hold my wallet comfortably while I'm driving or sitting. On most pants, when I keep my wallet there, it is very annoying while driving or sitting. These are the first pair of pants I have worn that make it comfortable.

I love these pants! I have bought three more pairs since the first pair I bought almost half a year ago.

Thanks 5.11!"

My favorite pair of pants September 23, 2008
"excellent pants, I wear them around when I'm off duty. Pretty comfortable, and super durable. I take the cotton ripstop ones when out in the woods and the canvas ones when around town. I even bought blue ones to wear to duty at the Vol. Fire Dept. Pockets are usefully and ingeniously laid out. Thumbs up."

Tact Pants September 21, 2008
"These are very good, durable pants. The only down side I have is the rear wallet pocket. The pocket is so deep that when you sit down wearing the pants, your wallet becomes a lump on your leg or buttocks. A velcro stop should be included in those pockets so that you would have the option of deep storage or not. I usually have to secure my wallet in the right pants leg zippered pocket."

Great Pair of Pants for All Occasions September 20, 2008
"I am a television news reporter who works in the Idaho news market. I typically cover a lot of police, and military training exercises or rescue missions. I used to go through five pairs of dress pants a month thanks to the rugged outdoors. I was recommended to 5.11 and they are the best pants I have had the opportunity to wear. I now wear them almost every day even at home. Very comfortable and extremely durable. They also look nice enough for TV News."

"We have to wear cotton pants, and most of the ones I've had fade very quickly, and the don't wear so well. I figured I'd give the 5.11's a chance. Well, the are not only the most comfortable work pants I've worn, they are tough as nails and hold their color very well. I will be buying more!"

Bang for your Buck September 16, 2008
"These 5.11 flagship pants fall into the antic of “You get what you pay for”. In a world freshly woken up to the needs of the tactical operator, there are a lot of imitations out there, but once you strap on full kit and run around with drop holsters and tactical thigh rigs at least for a while you can quickly tell the difference from the legit true work equipment and those that cant or wont cut it. Combine the quality with a wide range of colors, and you have a true operational pant that wont quit on you when you need it most."

"These pants are durable, although the darker colors (especially black) fade extremely quickly. In lighter colors (tan for example) I haven't noticed any signifigant fading. Also, they are a little pricey for a cotton tac pant."
