Stiff or not stiff??
September 9, 2008
"That is the question! I have several belts of this design from other manufacturers and I like this one the most. It is the softest I have tried of the stiffer reinforced belts. That makes a difference when wearing it all day long. I also use this belt for IDPA competition. This one is similar to the Wilderness tactical belt but has a bit more Velcro than some a little less than others. The only major beef I have with this belt is the Velcro on the belt tip. Strange thing is the Velcro doesn't seem to work well with the 5.11 pants, at least on me. I found that , like the wilderness belt, the Velcro sits right on the belt loop on the pants. I don't like running the belt buckle over to one side, tightening the belt, and then slipping the Velcro tip under the belt loop because I don't seem to get as secure a fit when I use it that way. I considered sewing a bit of Velcro to the outside of the belt loop on the pants to give more support to the belt tip but I think there is enough available to hold the belt in place. It is a solid platform for competition as well as duty work along with letting you lift a car if you need a lift strap in a jiffy!!"

Great Belt at a Good Price
August 27, 2008
"I have been going back and forth on what to do for a belt system for quite sometime. I’ve thought about using a suspender setup with a padded belt, using just a regular web belt, but then I came across the 5.11 Tactical Training Belt. Then I received a little card in the mail from my local government. It was my firearms permit. Now I needed a belt that could bear the weight of a firearm on a daily basis, that could be worn without looking too conspicuous (like some sort of cowboy). Again, the 5.11 Tactical Training belt came to mind. This time I decided to give it a go.
Construction The 5.11 Tactical Training Belt is constructed of nylon, hook and loop material, and forged stainless steel. The hook and loop material is on par with what you see on most high quality tactical gear. The loop side is approximately 1″ wide and 11″ long. The hook side is approximately 1″ wide and 3″ long on my Large size belt. Overall the belt is mainly comprised of nylon and increases in thickness from the end of the belt to the buckle. From the loop side of the fastener, to just a few inches from the buckle, the nylon material is doubled. The last 4″ approaching the buckle is actually layered 4 times. The stitching appears tight with no fraying or loose ends, and is more than adequate at the buckle. The buckle itself is forged from a single piece of stainless steel, then coated in a black finish. The buckle has a retention system that grips the belt tighter as the pressure on the belt increases to help ensure the belt stays put. The corners are rounded off for added comfort.
Performance
I stated before that my reason behind buying this belt is due to my personal requirement now that I have a firearms permit. I needed a belt that could easily support the weight of a firearm on my side for several hours a day 7 days a week. In addition, I needed something that could handle the rough treatment that airsoft skirmishes can put it through.
Using it as a daily carry belt, I found that it supports my firearm with no problems what so ever. There is little to no lean created by the weight of the firearm, and the belt does not sag at the holster. I did find that the belt sizes run a bit small (maybe I'm a size too big ;). The belt I have matches my pant size, but seems about a size too small. Due to this, the buckle can dig in a bit at the top corner when sitting. I would suggest trying the belt on before you buy if you can. The hook and loop fastener holds well and does not pose any problem. I appreciate the rounded edge at the end of the belt, as that helps thread it through belt loops.
Using it in an airsoft environment seems to be equally as nice. It supports the weight of my drop leg holster with no problems, and again, it does not sag. Whether running, rolling about in the dirt, or sliding down hillsides, the belt holds its own and then some.
Conclusion I found that this belt is a great choice for airsoft, and equally as nice for a daily carry belt for those with a firearms license. I applaud the quality of the construction, and the overall design. Simplicity is sometimes the best solution. I would like to see the sizing reviewed, as I wish I had one size larger. The only other drawback is the sharp corners that can dig in when sitting for extended time periods. Overall, I highly recommend this belt, but do suggest that you try it on before you buy it to decide if it’s right for you, and what size is best for you."

Poor paint on buckle
August 6, 2009
"This is my second Trainer belt. I wear this belt 1-2 times a week on average. With my first belt, I had it for about 2 months and I noticed that the paint was wearing off on the buckle where it slides (metal to metal). It looks "tacky"! I returned it and they sent me another one. 5.11 said that the problem had been corrected. Sorry to say, it has not! I have had the second one for approximately 4 months and as I sit here at my desk I look down to find the paint wearing off again in the same spot where metal rubs with metal. It looks unprofessional. Who wants to walk around with bare metal spots showing? I might have a better understanding for the problem if I was out in the "trenches" day in and day out but I mainly use it as a casual dress belt and with what little bit I use it it should hold up better. Just my opinion. Except for that, it is an EXCELLENT belt!"

"I ordered 2 of these Trainer Belts, one in black and another in coyote brown as replacements for my aging Wilderness Instructors (1.5") belt.
At the end of the first day wearing the black belt with nothing attached, I found the belt had rolled from the belt loop at the back of my pants alone. Not only was there a deformation from the roll, the entire belt had begun to warp as a result.
The second day just caused more of the same.
My Wilderness belt of the same size has only a slight curvature after more than 3-4 years with no rolling or deformation along it's vertical axis.
I haven't even bothered to wear the Tan belt and I'm basically writing these 2 belts off.
Since they don't function anywhere near what I'd hoped, I'm either going to have to improvise a way to strengthen these belts or just use them in abusive situations because they are useless to me.
I've attached a picture showing the deformation caused by 2 days after leaving it to hang under it's own weight for a week in the hopes of straightening it.
I am happy with my 5.11 clothing, but I will be sticking to my Liger belt and Wilderness belt until I can find something up to the same level as my 1.5" Wildernes belt."

The perfect gun belt? Just might be...
July 1, 2009
"I could not decide if I wanted this or the Operator belt and I'm glad I chose this one. Fantastic belt, it's just as stiff as it needs to be and is very comfortable to wear all day. I have used it to support both IWB and OWB holsters with extra mags and other kit and it handled all with ease. You don't need to spend any more money than this to get a great gun belt."

Excellent belt, one suggestion for 5.11 though
May 27, 2009
"This is a great belt at a great price. I think it's every bit as good as some of the higher priced competition.
The ONLY beef I have is that this belt is not offered with the polymer insert reinforcement. You have to go to the Operator's belt for that, which is 1 3/4 wide and doesn't fit all pants.
Make a 1 1/2 belt with a polymer insert and THAT will be the king of belts!"

They Called!
March 4, 2009
"This belt is exactly what it's labeled as! It is a great belt for working in the training division of any department. It's also one of the best off duty belts I have ever worn. It provides you with an extremely ridgid platform for both slide and paddle holsters. It actually feels like your duty gear, but way more comfortable. This belt is a must for anyone that carry a weapon 24/7!"

Not Ready for Prime Time
September 10, 2008
"Great fit, comfortable wearing in all conditions and for extended periods. Provides plenty of support for heavy pistols, spare magazines, and my ASP baton. HOWEVER: I have lost the sliding lock bar a total of three times. The good is the 5.11 sent me two replacements at no cost; the bad is that this shouldn't be happening. Needs a redesign to become reliable."

Tireless Support - Just a belt? I say not.
September 4, 2008
"My belt. No, it is more than that. My black, 5.11 Tactical Trainer. It provides me with tireless support. It never tells me the load is too heavy. It never complains about wool pants, twill pants or denim. Hot or cold weather. It treats all shorts and trousers the same - with sturdy support and respect. It is always at the ready, with me wherever I go. And like a fine wine, my Trainer has aged well over the past few years. Mellow but not weak. Supple, but not soft. Strong, but not stiff. Flexible yet unyielding. A black band as close to me as any garment, but with responsibility other outerwear simply does not match. And the design. Did you ever think a "belt" could have such a design which makes absolute sense, which breaks convention yet does its work better then any I have seen? The Trainer is an elevated and essential garment. Not just a simple strap of nylon. Not just a men's "accessory." No, this is not just a four letter word starting with "B". This is my Trainer. My tireless supporter. My friend."

Perfect For Everyday Use
September 3, 2008
"I chose the narrower trainer belt (1 1/2") rather than duty belt (1 3/4") due to the dual ability to use it with side arm holster and under my full duty gear belt. I've had the same belt for nearly four years and it's still in great condition. It supports the several items I wear on a daily basis, i.e., firearm, radio, OC, cuffs, cell, etc... with no problem. It's also been perfect for use with supporting full duty belt. I've recommended the trainer belt to many others in my department and they all love it. It's perfect for every day law enforcement use."

Best multipurpose belt I ever bought.
September 3, 2008
"I purchased the Trainer Belt for off duty use. I never imagined how much it would help reduce the weight of my side arm. I wear it every day with any dress. It goes well with anything.
I also tried it as a keeper belt for on-duty use, and now I use it all the time.
It maintains it's shape better than any belt I have ever used. I have recommended it to all my friends, both LEO as well as civilians. Great product 5.11!"

Great belt Great Value
September 1, 2008
"The 1 1/2 belt was my fist 5.11 belt purchase. It is a great belt at a great price. The belt has retained a bit of rigidity so it still holds holsters and other items in place. Since I bought the 1 3/4 it has become my day to day belt and has held up for years."

Great Choice for Carrying a Weapon
August 29, 2008
"I carry a firearm, multitool and cell phone on my belt and this product supports them well. Whether with jeans, shorts or khakis this belt looks professional. My only complaint is that the angled end of the belt began to fray shortly after I started wearing it. Still a great belt and a good value."

Heavy-Duty Belt
August 28, 2008
"This belt is a bit heavy as far as belts go and the buckle is a bit bulky. It is very durable. I use it off-duty and it is good to use if I'm wearing a consealment holster on it under a t-shirt. It offers great support for the extra weight of a sidearm."

Pick the right width
August 27, 2008
"The 1 1/2" trainer belt is a great belt for firefighters. While we do not carry as much around the waist (no jokes intended here!) as police officers, we do carry some tools of the trade, i.e. knife or multi-tool, phone, pager, glove pouch, radio, etc. Some uniform pants will not accept the wider 1 3/4" operator belt, nor will most phones or pagers clip onto them securely. The narrower width works out great. Either belt is a good choice, just pick which one works best for you."

August 27, 2008
"I wear the leather belt at work and it is great, but this belt in my jeans and hiking shorts is great also. No sagging with either a IWB or OWB holster and my Lightweight Colt Commander. Holds up my pants well also! Would recommend if you need good support. Has been wet innumerable times and still looks like new."
